IAEE NCC 2008 Holiday Party and Officer Inauguration

What a wonderful night in the city! Wine and Networking at the luxurious Vista Suite in the Hotel Vitale in San Francisco. We enjoyed connecting with new and old colleagues.

Plus had a delicious array of hors d' oeuvres from the Americano Restaurant by Chef Paul Arenstam made with the bounty of fresh ingredients from the local Farmer's market located just across the street at the historic Ferry Building.

We had a great collection of toys that Howard Ferrier hand delivered to the 'San Francisco Fire Fighters Toy Program'. We also recognized our new 2009 Board Officers and recruited some new volunteers! Thanks to everyone who took time out to celebrate.

Annual Baseball Game - Giants vs Astros May 14th

Wed. May 14th, 2008 Annual Giants Game

A GIANT Thank You for those who supported the Chapter and gathered for this memorable event!
The NCC IAEE 3rd Annual Giants Baseball Event was a night to remember. Not that the Giant’s won the game despite a very valiant try and an eighth inning tie, rather the spectacular night in San Francisco. One of those rare occurrences when the marine layer disappears and the city is hit with a home run of a heat wave! At game time the temperature was in the mid-80’s, the typical jackets, blankets, hats and scarves were left behind as one and all sat comfortably in short sleeves, the way a baseball game was meant to be viewed.

Cross Pollination Initiative Success!

IAEE NCC is happy to announce that ASAE, EDPA, ISES, MPI, PCMA - NCC have ALL signed up for our Cross Pollination initiative.

In February, Vice Chair Jeanavive Janssen,
spent a day participating in round table discussions with ASAE NCC leaders who's conversations kept coming back to a
theme of COMMUNITY and WORKING TOGETHER (Details Below). Because the conversations amongst the group supported the concept of Cross-pollination amongst associations Greg Melia, ASAE have sign off to the initiative that was drafted in Feb.

In the following weeks Stephanie Law, IAEE NCC Secretary, presented the initiative to PCMA NCC and they concur that its a good idea. EDPA & ISES followed suit shortly after. MPI - NCC
after deliberation with their boards members signed off the initiative in April.

What does this mean to you? It means that we will feature education opportunities from other associations in our e-newsletters, discounts/and other opportunities will emerge as we continue to grow these partnership with the hopes of having large scale collaborated events.

Feel confident though that as a Member of IAEE NCC you always come first and your information will not be shared to other associations.

From Greg Melia, CAE (Vice President, Member Relations and Credentialing, ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership: Key California Association and Nonprofit Community Leaders Meet To Explore Ways To Advance The Association Community

On February 19 and 20, over two dozen key leaders from the California association community participated in a planning retreat in San Francisco. Leaders from ASAE & The Center’s Northern California Network (NCN) leadership council, CalSAE, the University of San Francisco Institute for Nonprofit Management, and other industry associations gathered to explore ways to advance the association community in the Bay Area, as well as to create a positive experience for our colleagues from all over the world who will be participating in ASAE & The Center’s Annual Meetings in San Diego (2008) and Los Angeles (2010). Jeff De Cagna, chief strategist and founder of Principled Innovation LLC, and The Center for Association Leadership Board member facilitated the retreat. The group followed an open and inclusive approach to planning in the spirit of ASAE & The Center’s full volunteer leadership retreat this past November.

Over the course of two days, the group explored members’ expectations of their professional organizations, the issues facing association executives in the Northern California region, Bay Area resources or programs that could be leveraged to advance the association community. The group also looked at the factors support and impede collaboration between NCN, CalSAE, and other associations/non-profits in the region, as well as ways these groups can assist and benefit from ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership....

When asked to describe the retreat, participants spoke of the value of rekindling past friendships and making new connections. Others shared that it was invigorating to make a meaningful contribution to the enhancement of the association community in the Bay Area and beyond. Key outcomes include an initiative to create a calendar of association industry related events in the Bay Area and California; a foundation for collaborative planning between groups that serve the association industry; and an approach to connecting and celebrating the California association community.

Greening our industry is not just a trend anymore but more of a mandate for a number of reasons. It really is the future and we must act accordingly!

Shannon Kilkenny, will facilitate our 'Green Journey'.

With nearly 30 years as an independent event planner Shannon has worked in nearly every arena of the hospitality industry from a hotel sales manager, she has worked with non-profits to sporting events and everything in-between.

Author of The Complete Guide to Successful Event Planning. Published in January 2007. Largest chapter is called "Planning for the Environment".

She has been a speaker at: The Special Event National Conference, Hyatt Hotels Corporate office, MPI Professional Education Conference, Society of Governmental Meeting Planners, Moderator for Meeting Media webinar, Events Solutions National Conference...

- Jo Licata — Community Projects Manager, Hilton San Francisco
- Lon Baylor - Corporate Transit Manager, Bauer's Worldwide Transportation

We will:

* Hear from those who have pioneered the green movement and share their
trials and triumphs with a couple of case studies.
* Discuss how they went about creating and implementing their green initiatives. Give some examples on how to begin integrating the initiatives into everyday decisions or how to enhance what is already being done.
* Hear from those who are in the mist of greening a specific event(s) and the challenges they may be currently facing and hear from those who have overcome the challenges and forged on.
* Discuss how to create green partnerships and how it is the key to being environmentally successful.
* Talk about our power position - the hospitality industry encompasses so many other industries and businesses that any change we make has a wide influence. We can exert considerable pressure on transportation, food and beverage industries, hotels, convention centers, hospitalities businesses, etc.

Thank you to our Event Sponsors, Moscone & Bauer's Transportation.
